HAHAHAHAHA! First of all, I want to say, I myself practice Wica. I embrace the term "tree hugger", and I cuddle with my 3 beautiful cats every day. But, I am also a mother, and a wife, and I am made up of the same particles as everyone else. I am no different than any of you. I am 20 years old, and I adore this Barbie. Her outfit is reminiscent of something I would wear pre-pregnancy, and hope to be getting back into soon. I think those of you out there who are offended by a mere plastic doll should find something more meaningful to pour your life into. I myself have my son, my husband, and my home to worry about, and all you guys can think about is how offensive a DOLL is? Shame on you. Secondly, who said this doll was Wiccan? It simply implies that she has magical powers, like, say, "Sabrina, the teenage witch", or the girls from "The Craft", which was also not based on Wica. Many people mistake the word "witch" with Wica, and that is absolutely not true. There were many types of witches in history AND mythology, and the creators of this particular doll could be referring to any one of these. Even Christians at one time practiced Magics, and offered sacrifices. I have studied religions for nearly 7 years now, having taken a great liking to the subject at a very young age. I do not discriminate against any religion, custom, or set of moral values, and I expect the same from others, no matter who they are. I hate to say it, but the human race shames me. To think that a small, modeled piece of plastic could raise such a fuss over moral values, ESPECIALLY since ALL beliefs are supposed to be protected by the constitution, and CHURCH and STATE are intended to remain seperate. Now, I have seen Barbie as a nun, and there are also culture Barbies that are very popular right now, that could very well be considered by some as stereotypical. Such as the Princess of Ireland Barbie. Some could call her stereotypical green eyes, red hair, and green velvet dress offensive to their culture. Or the Egyptian Princess Barbie, which I myself own, could be argued to be offensive because of the slight deviations of costume from history. Myself, I call them beautiful, and creative, and an inspiration to little girls to accept all cultures, colors, and religions, and to use this knowledge to become themselves as they grow, free from predjudices and uncalled for drama. Also, why hasen't anyone had a problem with the Faery Barbie dolls? They practice magic too!

I think this Barbie is adorable! I love the show "Charmed" and it reminds me that there are other things in life to believe in whether we believe in them or not. My 5 year old daughter loves the movie "Hocus Pocus" and loves witches. She has the Kayla doll and wants this one too! It's so cute to watch her playing with it!

What a great laugh! To all the people getting their panties in a bunch over this: Did you ever stop to wonder why people laugh at you and your beliefs?

I can't believe this. One of the oldest religion in the world is now being commercialized for christians and other male dominated religions to make a profit from! My ancestors are spinning in their graves. At first glance I thought cool, acceptance at last, no more "devil worshipper" comments. Then after some consideration I got offended, this has been my family's religion for generations and now it's to be commercialized? Where's the Barbie nun, priest, minister, pastor, rabbi, dahli lama, or tribal shaman? This 'Wiccan Barbie" will cause some people to open their minds and research what a witch is...but the majority? a sledge hammer couldn't open their minds. I'm rambling, enough said!

I wonder if Ken is getting nervous? She casts spells now, ya know. Maybe that's why they broke up...religious differences.....hmmm.

I am not a follower of Wiccan, HOWEVER, this Barbie makes me want to be! LOL! She is just too funny, I'm sorry...I am enjoying reading these hilarious comments, too! 'Preppy Wiccan, just in it for the power'??!! Comical!

And it -really- starts, as capitalism strives to cash in on the wiccan-fluff craze. Help. Pink. ... Is that a dead bug in her hand?

As an ordained minister that practices and teaches Paganism and Druidism, I only have one thing to say to all those "christians" out there . . get two lives and fill one with ANYTHING!!!! Leave the spirituality to us.

Well speaking as a Reverend, wica is a religion for the lost and jaded (little to no slander implied) and any product that trivializes the efforts of a Godless religion are a boon to established religions. In this aspect the religion is seen as something childish and to be endeared/learned but not to be taken too seriously. This is a great strategy that has succeeded in the Halloween celebration; love those free candies:-) At one time it was a great pagan holiday but now little kids just associate it as the dress up and get candy day . While I am not saying that wica is useless it is rather immature as far as religions go. It may be one of the oldest but, the greatest religions are examples of evolution; the best wica can ever achieve (without an enlightening era) is a regurgitation of ancient fallacies based around general truths. It is the overcoming of that error that have made the modern main religions so great. To summerize: maybe wica followers should be a little more upset with this barbie spellcaster, as in reality is will only serve to hinder/condescend your beliefs to an even greater extent. Now is the time you should be asking yourselves why I even bothered to point this out.

I just find it amusing that people will now point to Barbie as "Non-stereotypical." Whatever.

I'm not much for Barbies, but I love this, this is so cool! I saw a commercial for them and I kind of had to laugh a bit, but now I want one! Would be nice to put on my altar as a goddess figurine so I wouldn't have to make my own or buy a fancy expensive one, lol. I don't see why anyone should get offended, this is just too cool!

I do not like this Barbie. In fact, I don't like Barbie in general. However, I also think the ensuing arguments siting religious discrimination from both Christians and Pagans alike is foolish. I will not argue. I will simply roll my eyes, and point my web-browser elsewhere.

I adore this doll and my daughter will be getting one. I think it is great for Mattel to come up with such a uniqe idea. I stand behind this doll and I know about 30-40 people in my circle of friends who do too. However, I agree with most everyone else and she should mabey have a better choice of outfit.
-
- January 3, 2004 at 01:53:40 (EST)
I love them! I bought all three for each of my nieces, my sister, and three for me. The best part is seeing everyone have a fit over a bit of plastic and a faux cauldron!

I wish people would studying religions before they make a comment. Paganism is a natural religion, focusing on nature. Our religion doesn't "believe" in a "god" known as Satan as the Christians do. Paganism has been around alot longer than Christinity. And as many people have said here, we all have the right to practice our own religion. "The Craft" is not Satanic. I suggest you all take a Google search tour of Paganism before preaching what is wrong and what is right. Paganism is no worse than Christianity. You don't see Pagans cutting down other religions, saying your going to "hell" for doing this or that and you don't see Pagans pushing their religion on other people. Open your minds people, not just your eyes!!! All this coming from an ex-Christian!

as a wican I find it funny how christians always need to prove that they are right. as a mother I much prefer to raise my children to have an open mind and be able to laugh at people without one. let's play!!! Blessed Be

As a minister, I can only say that If you are worried about what your child is doing and you think that they have turned to witchcraft because a doll made them do it. You,the parents should be the ones that are cast out, children only learn from what their parents teach them, hate, mis-trust and "evil" come from the home not from a doll.

I think it is about time that children were allowed to have open minds and enjoy their imaginations. I am wiccan and totally love this new and lovely series of dolls. If the closed minded parents of future of our earth don't like that a toy is teaching children to love nature and use it as a learning tool then it will be a sad and dreary future ahead of us.

I am a kid. I play with Barbie. I am also Catholic. I will buy this Barbie. I am in no way anorexic/bulimic, in fact I am probably 3 pounds over my safe BMI. I don't see how it represents/disfigures any religion and I wouldn't be influenced by it to do anything other than display her in my showcase. As a child, I have to say, its small-minded parents that destroy their kids. The dolls are the only outlet they have. I survived my parent's divorce because of Barbie. I respect Wiccans and I wouldn't mind being one myself. I am ashamed of Christians and their hipocrisy. And come on, I've met hookers, and so far none of them have cited Barbie as their reason for turning to the trade. Instead of speculating what causes moral decadence amongst youths, try asking them yourself.

I am amazed at all of the reading going on by non-pagans. I am glad though that I am protected by the Constitution, and I can live the way I want to, and so can others. I managed to get a doll for my little one. We like Barbie. We were thrilled the company came out with one that was a witch. I won't say Wiccan, I was taught Wiccan is the clergy, all Wiccans are pagan, but not all Pagans are Wiccan. We do not try to control anyone, or manipulate others against their will(we leave that to the churches , sin, guilt etc...) We believe in being truly responsible and accountable for our own lives, not blaming it on some other force 'making' us act inappropriately. We believe in aligning ourselves with divinty and it is present in all things, even in cowans who are still sleep walking in this world. I thought I'd leave my two cents too. May this Yuletide as the Wheel turns be bright with blessings in mind, body and spirit, blessed be!

I've been a wiccan for the past couple years and even though this Barbie doesn't really portray what a witch would look like, I'm glad it doesn't have green skin and a wart on her nose with a black pointed hat! We shouldnt take this offensively, because its just supposed to portray witches from the Harry Potter books and fictional things like that. Blessed Be!

Being trained in the paths of the druid, the wicca, the navaho and the lakota, I find this doll innofensive. Wicca creed states "do as you will shall be the whole of the law for so long as you harm none." Pagen creed teaches tolerance, so any pagens enranged over this doll are breaking their own belief system. We wish to be taken seriously, so let us act with dignity and not show the world we are as intolerant as those who drove us underground. Blessed Be - Steve AKA Banjax Wulfric of the rainbow path, follower of the Dagda and The Morrigu (PS: I don't remember any complaints when marvel brought out Thor, a comic book character based on a Pagen Diety)

Yeah, I don't find this Secret Spells Barbie to be some evil creature. We've all imagined we could turn something into something mystical & beautiful. I mean really, it's just Barbie havin a little more fun and she applies more eye makeup. SERIOUSLY, GET OVER THE WHOLE EVIL THING!! I'm a Christian and I have no problemo with it. If you do have a problem with the piece of plastic, don't buy it. Simple as that. Barbie has a pet dragonfly. Power to her. Oh and for those of you who had issues with Barbie distorting a girl's image, she didn't distort mine. I turned into a healthy non-anorexic 16 year old athletic girl because I had good parenting. Yeah, that's rite... it all depends on the parenting, guys. Well, that about sums it up- Have a lovely day! :c)

I would consider myself a huge barbie fan and I don't know why so many people would want to pick an argument over a doll. If you are going to bring up so many reasons y to hate on her and the number one reason would be the way she is dressed. To all the "older women" Can't you remember when you dressed and your mother or anyone telling you that you look trashy and i know it has happened to everyone at least once. It all has to do with the trends that have been going on since the begging of time. People need to just give up and get their facts straight. Get on wiht your lives and debate on better more important things like world hunger and war. Not on a plastic doll.

Hey. I'm 16 and I saw the Barbie in a Toys R Us catalogue. I was just wondering exactly how a piece of moulded plastic in a box can be evil?? hmm. I havent actually read the box but as far as I can tell there is no mention of 'Witch' or 'Paganism' involved which sounds like Mattel were avoiding the subject. I want one! I think they are pretty harmless and as far as I know most kids go through the 'witchy' stage anyway with their friends and grow out of it and there are no serious implications behind it. I'm no way in opposition to it..... She's a great debate topic!

I'm wiccan, and I'm glad to finally see a witch Barbie. I'm also glad that she doesn't look like the evil stero type witches. thanks!

I am a Witch and I personaly find the Secret Spells Barbie's cute and I take no offece to them. I have been practicing witchcraft for over 10 years and I like this "Witchy" look and addatude she has taken on. I feel it with open more peoples eyes about witchcraft. My coven receaved one of these Barbies as a free gift from a pagan site we had ordered from and I liked it. I am thinking of getting myself one(I am 26yrs Old) I was into barbies when I was a little girl and sents I have gotten older I have had no intrest in the other barbies they have come out with, but this one I realy like. Beside everyone it is a childs toy and some grownups collecters doll for some. Me I want one for the cuteness of it.

Why are ALL "teen" dolls built like Dolly Parton, who has had how many surgical reconstructions to make herself look like a Barbie doll herself? The reality proves that the dolls represent an unattainable physical ideal. How about some real girl dolls? Is there something offensive about that?

I have read the bulk of the comments. I have never liked barbie for the simple fact she is the embodyment of the patriarchal undertones in this society. This does not mean any condemnation of people who buy her. That is entirely your choice. I think talking about these things is constructive. It brings to light things that need to changed and improved. Yesterday I was involved in a protest supporting a High school organization tied to The Gay Straight alliance there were over a hundred of us in solidarity with the students. The others People who sometimes bring children to hold up signs saying "keep us away from those Sodomites" were only numbering about 5. My final comment. If God exists it is a Womyn!

People, people, people.........it's funny how you change totally harmless things to an apocalipse. If it was a witch, it would have said specifically like "Sabrina the Teenage Witch". If it was a pagan, it would have said also. It was meant to stimulate little girl's imaginations. Oh, and Barbie doesn't affect little girls. If it does, it's because of the way they grew up or were treated that they were so insecure that they relied on Barbie for a self-image. I agree, Barbie's clothes are tacky, but Kayla's are very pretty. And it shows a little clveage with the shirt but the coat covers nearly all of it so it doesn't matter. All you people weeping, just don't by the doll. You can't change people's opinions but you can't take something off theshelves just because you don't like it. And I'm not trying to change your opinion, I'm just trying tomake a point. Stop complaining and care about more important things.....

- Tuesday, December 02, 2003 at 02:29:56 (EST)
Okay, so you've trivialized paganism and Wicca with a "secret spells barbie." Nice job guys... Does that mean you'll be coming out with a "wife of the holy spirit barbie" nun and a "faithful and obedient servant of the lord our god" ken? Just wanted to make sure all the bases are covered. Oh, and don't forget their "going on jihad for allah" terrorist friends! Wouldn't want to get too white bread now would we? (PS: Kids are smarter than you think nowadays, and if you're going to market a toy like this to them you're going to teach them more than you'll ever guess.) You kids these days... what will you try to market next?

Now I have recovered from the stitch I got from laughing so hard at some of the comments I've just read I had to add my own just for the fun of it!! Did I miss something here!! Firstly its a doll get over it. Why do people have to make a big argument over something so insignificant!! Its just a bit of fun. Saying its evil or discriminating to wicca or christianity or whatever is just stupid. I'll say it again its only doll! It has not been made as a serious representation of the Craft and I can't see anywhere where it claims to do so! No mention of this doll is the ultimate wiccan representation and is authentic! or buy this if you want to bash Chrsitianity. None of that is in the description and yet people get into their heads that thats what it REALLY means!! It is whatever you make it. So why are people getting so offended?? If you don't like it don't buy its as simple as that! Its a choice no-ones forcing it on you or your children to embrace the barbie!!

Oh boy ho boy... Some of the posts I have read here are full of hate and bitterness. And these are the ones comeing from Christians. I am sometimes ashamed to call myself a Christian. I have studied the life of Christ, in depth. In fact, I am writing a book about it, and even HE would be ashamed of what some of his children are writing here. Yes, the peagans have a right to thier beliefs with out fear of condemnation from us! You bet! Same with the Muslems, Sehks, etc. I agree that there are evil spirits with this doll, but not the ones you have been talking about! NOOOOO! The kind of spirits to which I refer are the spirit of consumerism, the spirit of sexism, and the spirit of vanity. I too have seen girls dressed like this, but it was not in the "inncocent" way depicted by this doll. A lot of the girls I have seen in tight cloths and showy shiny whatevers are trying to attact a mate! At 9 and 10 years old they want to meet their Ken and get married and live happily ever after in thier Malibu Barbie penthouse in California, driving around in thier Pink Barbie jeep etc. When I was younger (10) I thought that Barbie looked weird, and yes, as a boy I played with dolls! I thought she looked scary to be precise. She was, unnatural! I knew it then, and it concerned me. I heard the girls I was playing with saying that they wanted to look like her, and I began to be concerned. "What will they do when they find that they can't look like her?" I later found out. A friend of mine starved herself near to death becasue she wanted to look like barbie... at age 10! Balimia and anorexia are on the rise in North America, why? Simple, look at the media! The Bratz dolls, the Barbie empire, even kids cartoons are all geared to the slender (impossibly) girls and the beefy, strong men. I thought we had moved past such sterotypes! As for fighting for worth while causes: 1) Free the Children (an international organization with the sole purpose of freeing, educating, feeding and providing medical care for enslaved children around the world) 2) The Canadian Peace Alliance (an organization designed to fight for peaceful solutions to international problems) 3) I think it is a worthwhile cause, fighting for our children's psychological health! Something else that is not mentioned much on this site so far is the consumeristic spirit that barbie (in general) radiates to our kids. Liek I said earlier; look at the kind of house, family, car, and cloths she owns. Then look at how much that stuff would cost in real life. HMMM, so in order to be cool I wave to be rich, skinny and pretty (and predominantly white, blonde and blue-eyed) with your token black woman every now and then, but still she is scrawny. This is what we are telling our children as a society. Barbie, when she first started was about girl power! You had Barbie in different careers, in PANTS (shock and awe), and doing things outside of the house. In post WW2 america this was a big deal! Barbie was almost canceled, but held on tooth and nail (with out breaking one!). Eventually barbie began to slim down (why, no one knows), and then her breasts started to expand, her hair got longer and longer, and then her eyes, hands etc. started to change into what we now know of Barbie. Barbie collectors, please go look at your Barbie from 1940 and compare her with today's barbie. even after being pressured to change all this amttel still has not made her measurements attainable by a human female. THAT is the problem I have with the doll, not the fact that she makes fizzy drinks!

Barbie is not responsible for girls behaviour, but their parents are ..give a child proper guidance and teach them confidence and self respect and there is no need for them to behave as some of you suggest. Get a life and stop being so paranoid, its a doll, its part of little girls' fantasy world...emphasis on fantasy...ie NOT REAL!!

Here is, yet another, barbie doll with skintight clothing, having yet another imaginary job. As for the commercials for this doll, they say she can make spells for "love"? well, isn't that like, against Wiccan beliefs to control someone elses feelings? not to mention this is teaching young girls, only a few years younger than me, that they can control men by lovely little spells.Sick on so many levels, here come the new generation of slutty dolls
-
- Sunday, November 30, 2003 at 13:24:17 (EST)
barbies are whores and have no right to be on store shelves. they teach girls to want to be underweight and to be sluts, in general.

THIS is an abomination. This just plain stupefys the Wiccan way of life and is also fodder for the raving fundamentalists. Just watch what happens...you'll see....Well Here in the Southern part of the U.S., they're already up in arms...heck, some parents have forbidden their children to watch charmed and buffy...and two of these are Wiccans that I know..and they have good reason...the rest are Christians who..well...just dont Believe in "voodoo" which for some reason is related to witchcraft by these people.

Merry Meet everyone,I found her at the Target in Anderson,In. I think she is Kool. People have some since, she is a doll, all she does is get abused by children and poised to be shown for aqdults,in my case she will be kept in her origional box as a clooectors item. Its a harmless doll, how ever I'm sure some closed minded Christian group has already or is planning Secret Spells Barbie Burning,I wonder if they tied them to the stake like they did in History or hung them by hte neck like they did in Salem almost 400 years ago.Mattel if your reading this I think you should make more Witch Barbies styled after Real and or Famous Witches like The Frost,Lorie Cabot,The Charmes(not real but famous)Sisters and so on,I'm Grateful for the Samantha Stevens Barbie,I bought two,one to keep in the box and one a an ornament in my big(18 wheeler). Thanks Mattel,Merry Part everyone

I couldn't say it very well, so for everyone who thinks that argueing about this doll is pointless, I agree. We could be putting out energy into argueing something truely useful, or not arguing at all. However, I am a pagan, and I feel that this doll is a bit...eyebrow raising.

As for the low down on Secret Spells Barbie, here's the FYI. Christian Parents should not be flipping out about this as though it's an insult to their very religion. In fact, it's the people of the pagan religion that should be insulted. Is there a Christian Barbie toddling around somewhere? No. So WHY is there a "Secret Spells" barbie? Have the idea makers of the Barbie Industry been watching a bit too much Sabrina and Harry Potter? They are seriously misinformed. The witchcraft in which Barbie is doing is steriotypical and fake. Though it's slightly insulting towards all members of the pagan religion, there is NOTHING wrong with Christian children playing with it. I can assure everyone that what Barbie does is NOTHING like what true witches do. More than half the potions made are NOT drinkable, spells are hardly ever performed and an individual's Book Of Shadows (Barbie's "Book of Spells"," is nothing like Barbie's pathetic little pink creation. What I'm trying to say is, Christian parents, get over the fact that your children are not going to be drawing pentagrams on their church programs and performing Yule rituals underneith the full moon anytime soon simply because they play with a witch doll. Don't sue the company because of their bad, rather closeminded idea. Becoming a member of the true wiccan religion takes research, focas, and dedication if you are not born into it, and most of your children will enjoy playing with the dolls far more than the actual religion it's based on, and once they realize that they'll lose interest rather fast. To the doll makers: What's next? Muslim Barbie? Jew Barbie? Catholic Alter Girl Barbie?

It's a doll. It does not reflect "real life", if it did Barbie would be in a wheelchair as her waist could not support her bust. Just because a child wants to play with this doll, does not mean they are going to want to turn everyone else in toads. Surely by teaching our children that there are many different beliefs in the world we ar going to make them more tolerant of others, and less judgemental. Of course, teaching them the truth about the different beliefs would be better. I must confess that I don't know ANYONE, of any religion who would wear an outfit like that, for which I am grateful. Accept that we all have different opinions and different beliefs, and realise that our lives would be incredibly dull if that were not the case. If you disagree with this doll, why do you disagree? Is it a rational, intellectual decision you have made after considering primary evidence? Or is it irrational and based solely on what someone else has told you? Dragyn

What is the real issue here with this doll? As I read through these comments it was so obvious to me that the problem with the doll is also the problem with the root of most of the comments (Christian & non-Christian) I have read. CONTROL. I am a born again Christian and am personally against any sort of witchcraft because of what I read in the Bible which I TRY to live by. I have seen a spirit of control within the Christian Church (born again or not), within Wicca, within other religions, in atheists, in politics, in schools..... Shall I go on? I have no idea what sort of spells are encouraged with this doll but I don't want to teach my daughter to contol everyone and everything around her - a very selfish concept. I want her to be confident in herself but to give & love & show GRACE to everyone. Control doesn't include grace. As a Christian I believe God knows best & that is why he is judge. I pray knowing that sometimes my prayers may not be answered because I don't always know best. Having all my prayers answered would become controlling as it would be all about self satisfaction. Now that I have probably offended both sides of the argument I will leave you to think about it and make your own decision .....grace, grace, grace, grace, grace... An Aussie Christian Mother

It really doesn't matter what she's wearing, cause in one to two weeks she'll be in an entirely different outfit. Plus, she probably isn't a "witch" to little girls. All her "evil" stuff will be lost somewhere in a toybox and she'll be playing a baby-sitter in a doll house. She isn't possesed by evil spirits. She isn't a pagan. She's plastic with hair. Oh, and learn to spell, because I think that is more important than a problem that doesn't even exist. It takes 3 seconds to read over your work.:)

In dealing with religions and our rights. Yes, we do have a right to our own opinion, but don't we also have a right to own religion? I just wish that for once I can live in a world and go to school where you're not based on your beliefs. I don't go around trying to force my beliefs, my religion on anyone. I just, for once, want to stand up and say, "Hey, I'm Wiccan!", and only be judged for who I am on the inside and not for what I believe in. Is that such a crime? Raven.

I think its funny that people are so upset over a Barbie that casts spells when Barbie has appeared in Fairy outfits as mermaids and fairies and such for years! Is it any different thats she's a 'Good' Witch instead of a 'Good' Mermaid or Fairy or Glenda or Dorothy or anything like that they've come up with? I think this doll is great, I want to get Kayla for my collection! :) (if you people want to protest something, go protest over Child poverty and war, there are many children who don't even have dolls who would be quite happy with just one. Think about what you do this Holiday season coming.) Lee

I think the fact that there are this many comments over a freaking doll says allot about the society we live in today. Let's take this way too seriously and have a freak out over it on the net so someone will pay attention to our rather ridiculous "arguments". There is nothing to argue about here; there is a doll in an outfit and that is it. Barbie resembles a slut any ways, she looks nothing like the average woman and I don't see why this outfit would matter. I'm not saying rip your bra off and burn it, which is stupid too. I am saying STFU, calm down, and think about what a tard you make yourself look like when someone reads this. You get all these other places to moan and gripe; they are called forums and emails. Try using them so the rest of the people don't have to see what morons you really are. To freak out over something so useless is just too funny. You know what? I change my mind I hope you Christians keep going with your comments so that my time at work is more entertaining then usual. I just know your own God is laughing at you while I am as well. Oh yeah and try looking up the word tolerance. We say we are more united after 9.11 but I have yet to see that happening. I have yet to see the day when people will go, "hey you know what? That is your religion, which is your thing. I don't agree with it but I can accept it because I know that you are as human as I am." But we all know that will never happen. Try looking in the mirror sometime, ask yourself what makes you better then realize, you're pathetic. And yeah, I do know I am better. How do I know? BECAUSE I DON'T BECOME ENRAGED BY A DRESSED UP DOLLIE YOU LOSERS! ^.^ Have a great one :D And yeah, please come out with a daemon Ken doll so I can continue to see the losers on this site go wild like the retarded, pathetic bunch of crazed monkeys we all can see them as!! Look forward to your retarded and useless posts soon idiots! Ciao!

Personally, I think anyone...ANYONE (that does include you too, Wiccans and Pagans) that freaks over this is a little over the edge. I am a dyed-in-the-wool Pagan....I am in search of teh Kayla one...and any reaction past that is a little off. I went into Wal-Mart, asked if they had this doll, and I got the dirtiest look from the associate and was informed that they do not carry her. Ah well. Doesn't mean I a going to go Christian bashing. For the ones that are? *smiles sweetly8 None of you like it when the CHristians bash you...so shove it. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you carries much further than simple religion. So...ANYWAY...I am off to look at KayBee and Target...later!

Glutinous evidence of the billions of dollars worth of cheap plastic crap that’s invaded the US from the immensely imbalanced trade with China. Yet another example of manufactured quality products domestically, long lost…and with it the jobs. Additionally our hyper consumption rate funds those who would build empires. All the while our children and we are bombarded (read psycho-activated, a.k.a brainwashed) by ads that you NEED this!

I think that Barbie needs to cover her belly up. It's against most school dress codes for girls to have their bellies showing. Please be a better influence on our growing girls.

Alright.....first of all, breathe a miute people. Anyway, barbie doesn't represent anything. She's a doll so that kids can not spend their day staring into space. And for everyone saying it mocks or is against your religion, you think into things to much. What next, GI Joe incourages kids to shoot people or Easy Bake ovens inspire girls that all they are suppose to do is cook for men or teddybears are meant for kids to go up to real bears and hug them? Don't blame barbie for what's going on in the world, she can't talk, it's not her fault. This is kinda childish, actually......

Wow, I can't believe how many people need to prove that they aren't 'paranoid' about this doll. If you have a problem with this doll, then speak your mind; if you don't, all you need to say is, "This is a nice doll. Maybe I'll go buy it". It's just sad that people think they need to explain themselves when subjects like religion are called into question. It's an okay doll, that is if I could stand pink. Also, the gold pants are a little intimidating.

This seems to be more about Christian bashing than Barbie bashing. 99% of the derogatory comments I have read here have been of anti-Christian sentiment. I find it amusing that only pagans/wiccans are allowed to be offended by this doll. If it comes from a Christian it's some type of hipocritical diatribe. I came here trying to find out where I can find one of these dang dolls. I am a Christian, with a young daughter who loves HP, Charmed, and other imaginary magical themes. I don't worry about their influence because I am the parent...I'm the one doing the influencing. The moral fiber of our country is unraveling, but Barbie has little to do with it. So, to all the Christian bashing throngs...get over yourselves, you're not as smart as you think you are. To the Christians with nothing better to do than worry about a pink sparkly Barbie...find a more worthwhile cause, if you're worried about the children, become an advocate and help the ones that need helping. Finally, to the real villan/hipocrit here...Wal-Mart, please explain to me why I can't find this Barbie in your stores, but you certainly milked the Harry Potter cash cow dry...as well as Cinderella, Snow White, and all things Disney!!!

LOL!! Hey, I think what you REALLY need is a Brigham Young Ken and two or three dozen Wifey Barbies, ranging in age (as the real ones did) from about 13 on up. Religious conviction, family Values and all that... Given the Bush Administration's destruction of American economics, what you really need is an Unemplyed Barbie. What a waste of energy. How many of you fast & furious commenters are registered to VOTE?

okay people, i read this whole darn comment section and though i found it amusing; the lack of intelligence and waste of engergy; i must say dont we have bigger issues at hand in the world then what a doll is trying to say or not to say ? Most of the people who posted had it right... she is just a doll. however those with tunnel vision only saw the clothes or the mild religious intent behind the doll....SO WHAT!! It is a toy, she allows children to exercise creativity which will help them grow into heathly adults... and dont tell me the as a kid you never went trick or treating as a witch or ghost or other mythical creature..... Now it is time for all adults to take there naps and let the kids get back to playing. Bigger issues face them later in life so let them be children now with ANY toy they want

With all the insanity in this world, I'd be hard pressed to admit to seeing anything previously posted here that I would say has 'offended me'. What I HAVE been doing is ROFLMAO for the last 15 minutes while reading this stuff. To think that a doll has inspired such visceral emotion from so many people[pagans/christians,etc]; hardly what the creators of said doll had in mind, I'd gather. I agreed with many of the posts here, basically the ones about why is everyone taking this all so seriously? ... but most of all... CHEERS! to whomever posted on Friday, November 14, 2003 at 8:54:52. I agree wholeheartedly!! I am also "willing to learn and not tear everyone to shreds". The fact that we are all so unique with differing belief systems is what makes the human race so rich and vastly interesting. When it comes to religion, I will forever be puzzled as to why there are so many who seem to be on a quest to 'convert' everyone within earshot over to 'their side'?... And if their rantings and ravings seem to fall on deaf ears, say, people with a bit of backbone + opinions of their own perhaps?.... well then, send 'em ALL into the fiery pits of hell where they belong!(along with their little plastic Barbie spawns of satan)LOL. Sure, if you're enthusiastic with your beliefs, you want to shout from the rooftops how great you think it is, and I can understand that... but thinking you have the right to impose your beliefs on people who have religions of their own is not very nice at all! I was brought up Christian, but embrace Wiccan traditions and ideals wholeheartedly. I am a born 'free spirit' and no one could EVER force-feed me their beliefs... However I AM always open to listening, because there are valid points to all religions. (Is that something that everyone here can at least agree on?) People will forever see evil where they WANT to see it, regardless if it's wearing the stereotypical black robe or not. Not for a second do I look at this doll and think "Eww, she's the devil incarnate... and look at those clothes--OMG!! I wouldn't be caught dead in clothes like that!!! She gives pagans a bad name... yadda, yadda, yadda" NO MATTER WHAT her attire would be, someone out there would complain. Would I wear that? LOL, nah, I don't think so... I prefer black, myself. But I would hardly insult it... for all the disco babies out there, more power to 'em. That's the beauty of Barbie... interchangeable clothing. Have we forgotten who they're marketing this to?? Little girls, remember? .... LITTLE GIRLS LIKE PINK!! I'm one of those people who when I see something I don't like, I turn it off, look away, whatever. But far be it from me to rally against something in an attempt to take away what others might truly enjoy. Free choice... there's nothing like it. I don't want anyone imposing their feelings and/or controlling something I love, so therefore, I shall do the same. If only, in the name of fairness. I think this Barbie is cute, benign and if I had the extra cash right now, would def. buy it. I will say the ONLY THING about this doll that bothers me is in the description about "...being an ordinary schoolgirl by day, Secret Spells Barbie transforms at night" ROFL.... I ask: "Why should she only be able to 'transform' at night??" I think she should be what she is 24/7 and not hide the fact during the day. HAHAHAHA ... and anyone who didn't like what I had to say, 'sorry' ... peace and blessings to you all... Take a deep breath and repeat after me... "It's only a doll, it's only a doll." ;-)

From reading the comments, it appears that some believe no one should be offended by anything. That being said, here are some more ideas for Mattel that shouldn't offend anyone. How about...Call Girl Barbie. Think of the free enterprise concepts and marketing skills she could inspire in young girls. Or maybe Right-to-Life Barbie. She could come with a picket sign and a clinic to burn. What's the harm? They're just toys. Here's a good one...Terrorist Barbie. Let's face it, some people think it's acceptable behavior so the rest of the world shouldn't find it offensive. Right? And besides, it's just fantasy. Children should be encouraged to pretend anything. Let's not forget Columbine Dylan and Eric. And I'm sure my comments will be posted since anything I say or do shouldn't offend anyone else.

I'm impressed. I too have not seen this in stock yet but plan to ask about it. The Christian community needs to "get over themselves" and get on with life. Just because it isn't "them" does not deem it dangerous in any way. Learn before blasting ... it's a peaceful path that's followed with love and understanding.

It's not like the company's saying that Barbie has suddonly turned Wiccan or anything... She's a pink sparklie thingy in disco pants playing with soda and grape juice. I personaly think people need to stop trying to find everything wrong with the product and just take it for what it is.

ok people first i have to agree it a doll and a toy and also a collectors item. i dont see the issue in the doll at all. though i do agree pink and gold my have been an over flahy choose of color but it looks good on her. another thing all religion is the same so what if barbie is do charmes and enchanment . barbie has done so much for sooo many why not. religion should never interfier with a persons imagination. further more many relgion grow and flurish form one and other . no one can say that they are one thing or another in todays world if you say you are christin and bad mouthing others you are breaking one of gods commanments and laws to love thy neighbor. not hate him and and shun him for being didferent . if god what all to be the same he would have never given the greatest gift of all to us. free will and that is what this doll stands for free will to be anything you wnat . after all is that not what barbie is all about . pretending what we as people would like to be with out any confritation. i remeber playing with barbie and wishing i were a happy ,finacially secure person and in love with ken ie. boyfriend and one day marry him. tell me is that not what this doll is about .getting away from socail right and wrong and losing our self in makebelieve. i love this d oll an dreal dont see what the hubbub is about so what if now barbe can bibitybo with the blue fairy . it gives children the sece of magic in a unmagical friendly world. i am christin and pagan like the whole lot of you . you trace your heritage and youll find pagan dna. no one religion is over any they all need to work together and this doll is helping that happen if barbie can work with everything she stands for so can the people who play with her and then life maybe a little beter for the children that play with this doll for they will see magic can be wonderful and pretending help us learn what is real and not real and to find outselves in imagination. this understanding that this doll is just a toy but with the right mind set it can be a bridge to gap a hurting nation . all religion is one you call it jesus i call it pan we take that all away and we have only a light a source a belief that in the end thats all they want is for you to believe. as many of us be live in barbeie . i beleive th amaker of this doll should be greatly awarded for the daring move to give today people avarity to life as we all get from our god(s). blessed be and god love you also may the faery watch over you and angel guide you to the life tahts well atended for you. ibis whitefeather

I don't understand the big noise here. If she were called Funky Barbie or as one of you mentioned, Austin Powers Barbie she'd be considered cute. Because of the allusion to witchcraft she becomes somehow tainted. When are Christians going to stop judging other paths? It always seems to be Christians who are so very offended. Your numbers are strong enough, you don't have to feel threatened because there are 'others' besides you in the world. Leave us in peace. Live and let live. As someone else said, SHE'S JUST A TOY! How she's interpreted by young girls is entirely up to the young girls. You don't have to buy her, but someone else may want to. I may buy her just to assert my right to do so. Moral decline! I didn't realize that Barbie could do that all by herself! Ha! :D

Maybe some of you older people out there rememeber the original Barbie: she was a model. And guess what models do? Put on clothes and show tem off. Her gig is fashion, and for whatever it's worth, Barbie follows fashion. Now, how about a Barbie who actually sets fashion trends? Maybe we'll find some originality.

IT'S A TOY! - YOU PEOPLE READ WAY TOO MUCH INTO THINGS- IT'S JUST A TOY!! - & FOR THOSE THAT BLAME THIS CUTE LITTLE DOLL MADE OF PLASTIC THAT HAS BEEN AROUND(IN CONCEPT AT LEAST-) VIRTUALLY SINCE TIME BEGAN; FOR BAD BEHAVIOR, ANOREXIA, BULIMIA, PLASTIC SURGERY- OR WHAT EVER ELSE YOU WANT TO PIN ON HER- LOOK MORE AT THE IMAGES PORTRAYED BY REAL PEOPLE- A DOLL CAN'T HAVE A NOSE OR BOOB JOB OR SUFFER FROM AN EATING DISORDER- BUT SHE CAN BE USED IN GAMES & TO MAKE UP LITTLE STORIES; THAT CAN INSPIRE CHILDREN TO BE WHAT EVER THEY WANT TO BE - THAT'S WHAT SHE STANDS FOR- NOT PHYSICAL PERFECTION OR RELIGION OR EVEN REALLY - A WOMAN- SHE REPRESENTS WHAT'S GOOD & HAPPY & WHAT THE WORLD SHOULD BE- NOT FULL OF RELIGIOUS OR NARROWMINDED,'PASSING THE BUCK'-TYPES THAT SEE PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE BUT IN THEMSELVES - FOR GOODNESS SAKE DON'T BLAME A TOY FOR WHATEVER MAY BE WRONG IN THIS WORLD! - IT'S CLEARLY NOT ABLE TO DEFEND ITSELF- & IT'S NOT ITS' FAULT.

Blessed Be! Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't wear pink and gold casting a circle, but pink has always been a trademark Barbie color. (Maybe an optional black cape?....) For those of you freaking out over a piece of plastic, CHILL OUT!! You should be so lucky *IF* your kids wind up following the path of the ancient ones- Wicca requires tolerance, patience, and discipline--not to mention a respect for others on their own spiritual path- not to mention the reading and research that goes along with it. Then there's the whole "An it harm none, do what ye will" thingy... What a radical thought....
-
- Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at 10:26:33 (EST)
For all of the Wiccans and people screaming "It's just a doll...get over it"... It seems to me that YOU are the ones with the hangups here people. For every comment by a Christian I am seeing about 8 from you telling us to get over it. Ah, hello...who are the insecure ones here? If you like it, buy it, but realize that I have the right to choose not to buy it. She looks like she would have a pimp that dresses in similar colors. Would that be Secret Wizard Ken? Please...this is a stupid concept. If Mattel can't come up with something a little better than this, they need to start paying their creative people a little more.

I've always loved Barbie, and now my daughter plays with them, however this is one that I will not buy her. For one, she is dressed like a fantasy street walker!! Secondly, there is a difference between promoting fairytale and new age. Note to Mattel...CHARMED doesn't neccessarily mean CHARMING.

- Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at 06:37:53 (EST)
I think we should all sit back for a minute and think of the real problem here...its not a battle between christians and pagans, or what is right. It's all about the impressionable young children out there and the fact that barbie has never had a toilet! What is that teaching our children?

oh my god... that outfit... are we casting spells or starring in Austin Powers? and to all the zealots bemoaning the moral decline of the country or whatever... it's a DOLL. get over it.

Love the attempt at a magick Barbie. But she needs some black clothes, a cloak, the cauldron, a wan. Loose the potions...not real. A Book of Shadows, some herbs, incense and candles would work. Great idea, poor research before marketing it. Can't find it anywhere but on-line. Brightest Blessing Mattel and keep trying.

". . . the best part about barbie? with a ballpoint pen, you can give her a tattoo! seriously! " That's an earlier post that I just found hilarious!! I want my very own junkie/tweeker barbie!

I think this is wonderful, finally some tolerance. This is conditioning children from a young age to be tolerant.

- Monday, November 17, 2003 at 01:25:37 (EST)
I made my own witch doll. I had an old Belle doll from Beauty and the Beast and I made a black hooded robe for her. She's "Traditional Witch Belle". Much better then this trendy little Charmed wanna-be.

I think somebody has been watching too much Charmed.

People who do NOT see a darker side, are not opening their eyes completely. Just because we choose to follow one side of a path, does not mean the other does not exist. All things need balance. A witch would know this.

At least put her in a traditional robe! Not some disco outfit LOL
-
- Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 19:09:31 (EST)
First off she look like "Clubber Barbie" Speaking as a Pagan I really do not see the big deal other then it will give people the wrong Idea about what Pagans do or dress. Honestly I don't dress that way. If people ant to see a "Darker" side of Witchcraft or a fantasy side fine. We can't chnge your minds now. It's been inbeded into you that Witches are spell casting freaks. I'm just glad my daughter is not into barbie. She has called her in not so many words A Slut! We Pagan mothers teach our daughters to respect themselves and our sons to respect women.

- Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 19:06:27 (EST)
I see comments from Wiccans who for some reason read religious discrimination into this toy as if they have a monopoly on spells and magic and are being persecuted by this toy. I see comments from Christians who see this as some sort of tool of Satan used to lure innocent children into the darker aspects of witchcraft. But more importantly I see people with a lot of irrational fear and anger in their hearts and they are using this doll, and too often other people, as the target of their anxieties. For these people, this doll is not the real problem, the damage has already been done to them and is merely projected onto this toy. Please, get the help you so drastically need so you can live your lives without feeling the need to view everything as an attack and initiating a retaliatory strike on everything you view as threatening. You are attacking a DOLL!

I just ordered an SS Barbie off of Ebay...hadn't heard of this one before I saw her there...She's AMUSING - she's a TOY...and anyone feeling threatened by her existence needs to get over it...maybe Babs can teach me yet one more way to 'skin the cat'! lol

There is nothing evil to this doll What is the difference from this one and the others! Our girls should have the right to choose! HOw many of you allow your daughters watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch or how many of you watched reruns of Bewitched Come on move on with life
-
- Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 08:12:17 (EST)
hehehehehe.....I would have continued but that would be a waste of time. What else will be "evil"? How about little kittens and pink pony dolls? It doesn't represent anyone........

oh and I agree, she still can't beat Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Right on!!!
-
- Friday, November 14, 2003 at 13:33:14 (EST)
I have to agree with my fellow pagans here who say big deal, in fact some of us may even get these ourselves and use them as propss for our rituals. did anyone read about the my little pony...hey get a sense of humor. and like others have said, it's not called pagan, witch or wicca or druid etc. barbie. if she's about the fashion and spells and that aspect of magick that isn't promotion of any religion or even spirituality unless there are other key elements mixed in that description. so it's really a doll representing a part of the craft which has to do with spells, not the spiritual or religious aspects. I was given a gift once of a spongebob toy, the person made a witches hat and broom for him, he became spongebob witch and it was great. I thought they should have one of these on the market. joy and laughter and a sense of humor are some of the important ingrediants to our Craft as well as embracing one's inner child. I think the outfit is well blech though I am sure we would see outrage if it was Witch barbie all in a long black gown or gothic outfit or goddess tee or perhaps in elmental colors...then someone will say hey we all don't dress like that. we all dress differently, some do, some don't cause hey we are just people like everyone else. so I guess we can say this barbie enjoys a bit of the disco and maybe lives in a warmer climate where you can get away with the day glo colors, lol... me I prefer my black and goddess tees, haha

- Friday, November 14, 2003 at 11:52:36 (EST)
Aw...you guys...This is too much. Fighting over a TOY? That's childish. You remember how Barbie can do everything and anything? She's a doctor, pilot, mermaid, faerie, ballerina, figure skater, celebrity, and so much more. So what if Mattel made a Barbie that can do magic? It just adds to the rest of the things that Barbie can do. It gives little girls the ability to still believe in magic. Notice how little girls look up to Barbie. They want to become those celebrities, pilots, and doctors. I have noticed that girls that have had barbies when they were younger have actually made something of themselves. So let them believe in the magic. It exists and this world needs to keep it going. I know that this is a bit much and that the spell book and powder crap is making magic seem something it's not, but it still keeps the magic alive to a certain extent. I'm Wiccan, and I find nothing wrong with this. So, be a grown up and set an example for the little girls. Let them believe what they want to believe.

- Friday, November 14, 2003 at 10:45:47 (EST)
ok ok lol every1s getting all upset over this doll and i bet most who are saying it should be off the shelves have never sat down with a pagan or wiccan person and asked them what it is they believe in......MOSt the people that are soooo quick to judge what witchcraft is and put it down know nothing about this "EArth based" religion....take the time to talk to someone instead of cutting them down......all the hipocrits and "God" lovers should know "THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE" but thats all you really seem to do ......id rather someone come up to me asking what i believe and actually what is wicca than calling me a demon satanist and saying GOD is the only way....which is totally wrong...."Satan" by the way a CHRISTIAN BELIEF has nothing to do with witchcraft......wiccas basically only rule is if it harm none do as thou will......i worship the moon, stars, sun, rocks, wind, earth, air, fire, water EVERYTHING IN NATURE....now tell me what is the harm in that??????? in tuning myself with the earth OUR WORLD.....either by meditation or spell casting or whatever i chose that feels right......and as you will understand there are GOOD and BAD witches out there that is true......as with any religions...bad and good people ......but true WICCANS never i mean NEVER use there magick to cause harm......its mostly to improve inner self and your connection with the people around you........so many Christians out there so worried about what everyone else is doing and trying to push there religion on everyone else......must we remember the "BURNING TIMES" when the church got so mad that witchcraft was getting so much attention and more and more followers where straying from the CHURCH that they had to BURN EVERY SO CALLED WITCH IN SITE.....sound a little to POLITICAL for me......wicca teaches never to discriminate and PUT DOWN OTHERS who do not believe in the same......because truly people NO ONE KNOWS WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN WE DIE.......you have FAITH that whatever u believe in will happen......and why fight with someone over that.......all this time spent fighting we could be learning from each other........but no not in a world like today could that ever happen......people have lost that i think ........lost the will to care and learn about others.......if its not what they would do or what they believe well lets just TRASH THEM TO BITS.......what religion would ever want that for there followers???????? NONE........and i know im not the only one out there that has this thought but i seem to be the only one willing to learn and not tear everyone to shreads.........as the human race thats what is so great about us we are WILLING to be OUR OWN PERSON .....have our own beliefs ......why be like the crowd when you can be like YOURSElf.... respect all RELIGIONS in hopes that maybe you can learn something new instead of learning how to HATE MORE......thanks for your time hope i made someones thoughts about this religion a little more clearer.......

- Friday, November 14, 2003 at 08:08:51 (EST)
If any of you think that witchcraft is evil or filled with bad spirits, you're totally wrong. It's like saying Catholics "worship" Mary. They don't and we don't. All I am saying that most Wiccan rituals start with "I cast this circle thrice about to keep all evil spirits out." GET OVER IT YOU CHRISTIAN RADICALS!!!

- Thursday, November 13, 2003 at 22:11:15 (EST)
Okay, I have to speak up now. I have read a lot of these posts and giggled my face off, but now I must speak. I have to come to Barbie's defense. For the record, I am a feminist the daughter to feminists. I am a pagan who still has respect for the Catholic faith she was raised in. I had over 30 different Barbie and 3 Kens when I was a girl. I had the Townhouse and the Dreamboat. In my play world Barbie was anything I could think of. The Townhouse was a corporate HQ with one of the Barbies as CEO. It was a home that “Jewel Thief” Barbie broke into. The dream boat was taking “archeologist” Barbie to exotic places where she would dig up ancient history. Yes, Barbie as she is packaged is an unrealistic picture of American womanhood. Women have never been shaped like Barbie, nor did they ever do nothing but dress up to please Ken, keep house and look after children. Not even in the Fabled Fifties. (Which incidentally had a up to 40% of the female population of the US working outside the home at some point after marriage.) Yet Barbie as a toy provides the means for a girl (or boy) to explore all the worlds of their imagination. Furthermore, in recent years Mattel has made a concentrated effort to expand Barbie’s horizons. There is Doctor Barbie, Gymnist Barbie and Desert Storm Barbie. They have made their tribute to PC and diversity with Handicapped Barbie and Sign Language Barbie. More power to them! When I was a kid what mattered in purchasing Barbies was a) new accessories and b) new look. My main Barbie (the brunette that looked like my Mom) could always use more women in her crew, no matter who she was going to be today. When I was 13 I decided I was too old for Barbie and gave my entire collection (which filled a moving box) away to a neighbor kid. Man, have I regretted that since!

- Thursday, November 13, 2003 at 21:56:33 (EST)
After reading all these comments i have to say that I am so glad Mattel did this, I just wish I could find one to buy. Born and raised a christian, I have to laugh at the bias that the "Christians" are throwing out here. Yes we Wiccans are out here, to stay. Some of actually dress like this Barbie, at least where I am from. But who cares what she is wearing, as long as she is out there. If they are getting guff for her being a witch, and taking her off the shelf, then then should never have come out with Barbie as the Witch from Snow White, or any of the Halloween Holiday Barbie's that are sitting on my shelf. As for her promoting a religion, like it hasn't been done before by Mattel. It's like everything else in life, if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it, but don't take it away from those of us who do like it. I don't take away the bibles off of the shelve just because I don't like everything about it, so why fight about a Barbie. I hope she is here to stay.

Do you all remember Air Force Barbie? My daughter loved it. Barbie was dressed just like mommy! But that did not last. The first thing she lost was the hat. Then Barbie’s shoes were gone. After a week or two, Air Force Barbie was with Doctor Barbie and My First Barbie in the bottom of the toy box with no clothes at all. This is where she stayed until my son’s GI Joe attacked Air Force Barbie and popped her head off! Why are we worried about this new make believe Barbie. Lady Elaine Fairchild on Mr. Rogers had that cool boomerang. Remember “Boom-a-ran-toom-a-ran-zoom-a-ran”. She showed King Friday a thing or two! But that was in a land far away! We have problems here at home to worry about! GI Joe has become a home grown terrorist.

Personally I have never really liked Barbie that much, but it is nice to see something like this in the mainstream toy world. This comment board is definitely humorous...what I would like to know is how did religion get so involved in this anyway? It's not called "Pagan/Wiccan Barbie"! While I am Wiccan (and would never wear this horrid outfit!), I do not see it as an insult to my religion or anyone else's. I think people are just offended too easily! And for those of you who feel that Paganism and Wicca are evil or demonic...you really should do a little research on the beliefs of the two before you make such ignorant comments. Blessed be!!!

I think this Barbie is neat. Not just because I'm Wiccan myself, but because its a change. Though her outfit isnt very good. I think the idea is good, but they could do better with her. AND no, Wicca is not a devil worshipping religion for crying out loud. Dont be so narrow minded people.

#1. I have yet to see a religious affiliation on this doll besides from the people who have posted. #2. Parents should be raising kids, not expecting Barbie to do so. me? i'm an atheist.

"Just like some of the other crap out there, mermaids, fairies, etc. Ya won't find one in my house. If you think it's just a toy, think again. Evil spirits are nothing to kid around with. And they can attach themselves to any item." I must have missed the memo that said Christians were supposed to be afraid of fairies and mermaids and dolls to be unsinful. I myself, know that none of this stuff is real, so why be afraid?

Anorexia/bulemia comes from peer pressure and other people and actors, not barbie. Not all women have no self confidense. Especially because of barbie.

So, the wicked witch of the west tries to kill people and no one cares.....sabrina the teenage witch causes all kinds of mischief and it goes over everyone's head......then barbie, who never was classified as a witch, casts charms so she could have a ride to the mall and everyone goes ballistic......chill out everyone.

Hey, when are we going to get a Mary Magdalene Barbie? I mean, fair is fair. She could sin when you pull a string on her back. Will she come with rocks so we can stone her for her sins? Will there be a Ken the Savior doll to call off the stoners? What about a Lilith Barbie, who is equal to Ken? She would be unable to enter gardens? She could come with a snake and half an apple! An Adam 'Ken' could swallow the apple core and his clothes would fall off... Let's see, now we've got the Wiccan Barbie, the Christian Barbie, and the Jewish Barbie... what do we do for the Buddhist Barbie... it would have to be more flexible, but it wouldn't have to DO anything...

I am so glad that my parents raised me to make my own decisions and to be open minded. I grew up with Barbie, and I have nearly 300 dolls in my collection. It hasn't made me anorexic or bulemic, and the people who blame that on Barbie are just ignorant. As for the religion thing; there is not only one religion. So all you Christian people need to back off. I hear no comments from Hindus, Muslims, or Buhddists for or against this doll. Who cares if a Wiccan would not wear this outfit, Barbie would. She's portraying a young woman. And some people still wear gold pants. I've already purchased Kayla at Target, and will be purchasing Barbie and Christie from Toys R Us (only 'cause I work there and they don't have Kayla). As of yet I have not heard a single complaint from any customer regarding the doll. :P

wow are there some crazy people out there. It is just a doll. Kool-aid won't turn you into a frog or summon a demon to possess you whether you make in a litle "potion" cup or not. And for those pagans out there that are distressed over this misrepresentation of our religion, the doll doesn't promote a religion inaccurately or otherwise, because religion is not mentioned at all. This Barbie is a work of fiction. Also, worthy of mention is the fact that not everyone who performs spells is religious. Even if this Barbie had anything to do with real spells, there are people all over the world who perform spellwork without it having particular religious significance to them. Many people wear certain colors for certain effects, put various herbs, stones or flowers in their shoes, pockets or pillows to produce desired results. Though I recognize that for others, like myself, spellwork is one way to connect with the deep essence of the divine in the universe, like a physical manifestation of prayer, Irecognize that this is not the case for everyone.

Greetings People.....A friend told me about this site, just to take a look that is, I myself am pagan, evil spirits?...PLEEEEEEASE! the only evil out there is whats in your heart. Its just a doll, to attract children with bright colors and new things....All be it, its to make the mighty dallor, Shrugs.....I got better things to worry about...be well
-
- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 23:17:27 (EST)
All you people calling the doll a demon, are you looking at the same picture on this site as me? Maybe gold pants, pink tops, pink make-up, and light blue butterflies have just been named evil and I didn't get the memo.

I bet most of you christians have dressed up as witches or fairies or something mystical for halloween, right(and if you say no, your lying and I'm telling on you!hehehe)? It's kind of hypocritical to have fun with mystical stuff as kids and not let your kids have fun the same way. Did I make a point? (don't answer, you smart alecks)

- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 23:11:01 (EST)
I would never buy this stupid-looking demoness from disco hell. She doesn't look like a witch, she looks like a Barbie wearing a dressing gown over her ugly 70's hand-me-downs.
-
- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 23:08:27 (EST)
This doll is NOT religous. If it was, then it would be a collector's item. I bet that mattel wasn't even thinking about pagan and wiccan religion when they made this doll. It's a doll that makes fake sugar-coated spells with orange kool-aid. And all of these christians also need to breathe for a minute and think about this: a lot of people out there are christians, and mattel doesn't want to offend you because they'd loose a lot of buisness. It's not about religion, it's about money. And I know for a fact that God is much more important and stronger than a piece of plastic with hair. People.....chill out....
-
- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 23:07:16 (EST)
It's funny how different people think. A doll can be a work of satin, or a item that proves pagans are looked down on by society, or a cheap piece of plastic, or a great idea. Most sites should have comment boards, it's very amusing..........
-
- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 23:00:06 (EST)
I think most of these comments are so funny. When my daughter asked for these dolls she said they were like Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I'm in Massachusetts and couldn't find them in any stores. I haven't purchased them yet but found them on Yahoo shopping.

People...people please. It's a doll. An incredibly plebeian figure that has been with us for decades. What HASN'T Barbie been? She's been a doctor, a waitress, an olympic skater, skier and swimmer. She's also been a veterinarian, been in the military and had countless other vocations. So now she's a witch. Oh yay. Does any of it really matter? The answer, my friends...is no. Absolutely not.

-
- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 14:34:39 (EST)
To the right-wing knee-jerk reactionaries who claim that this insipid piece of commercialism is "an insult to [your] god," please bear in mind that this doll and her costume are about as far off the mark as one can go in realistically portraying practicing witches. I'll bet you think Hogwarts is real, don't you? You're a bit late, folks. With or without "spells" or "magic," Barbie has been polluting society with her image of the so-called "ideal woman." She's responsible for uncounted cases of anorexia, bulimia, and unnecessary plastic surgeries. And let's not even get into the millions of violations of fahsion sense. Hot pink witches? Yeah.
-
- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 13:28:42 (EST)
ok, so i am an American teenage girl that practices Wicca and when i stumbled upon this doll, i gasped at first, then laughed. the years of stereotyping will never go away people, and even though this is a misrepresentation and the dragonfly doesn't really make sense, at least she's not green with warts and a pointed hat. Magic is popular (charmed, buffy, sabrina, etc)and there's really nothing we can do to stop it, so lets just enjoy the positives that can come out of it. Plus, she's not WICCAN or PAGAN by label, so lets not label her ourselves. She's just a barbie, like all the rest. so she looks a little like she's stuck in the disco era, im sure some pagans still are.
-
- Monday, November 10, 2003 at 12:48:11 (EST)
I think that they're fab! They don't really represent anything, except that girly-girls are still fascinated by magic. Are you religious fanatics going to ban Grimms Fairy Tales and Hans Christian Andersen, because they discuss the same things! Barbie, Kayla and Christie are called 'Secret Spells' not witches, Wiccans or evil scary bints who are going to turn people into frogs. Like Granny Weatherwax says "Black is the only colour for a proper witch." Although, I'm sure Magrat would love them! P.S. My friend thinks their outfits are very cute!

I thought spongebob Barbie was the Barbie that got tired of sponging Ken down... you know after years of being shelved next to Ken, having rumors spread about Ken shagging Barbie, and then Ken being Gay well I just thought maybe Barbie might be trying a new kind of guy. Now with her new alter ego - secret spells Barbie, this great looking chick with the plastic boobs and colagen lips can wave her wand and make any sorry guy her equal (YAY)

First of all i am 21 and have been a practicing wiccan for a littlw over 4 years. I am not offended in the least over this doll in fact i intend to buy all 3 if i can find them. I understand that a lot of mothers are just trying to protect their children from the world around them for as long as possible but before you start critisizing barbies for mixing fake potions you need to think of the barbies and all other dolls that are dressed completly like sluts. Those dolls are dangerous because they encourage little girls to dress like that and then they end up getting raped but you wont here about a little girl getting hurt because she mixed up fake kool aid in a little cup and drank it now will you. You people seriously need to get your priorities in order.. Blessed Be everyone. By the way the comment page was so funny i cryed. lol

It took a long time for Barbie to jump on the witchcraft bandwagon. I bought it for my daughter cuz she loves Barbie. However, it is a bit silly the way witches are portrayed. Witches are not "regular" people by day and "magick" people by night. Witches are people, regular people we just celebrate a different religion.

Give kids some credit. My best friend used to make houses for Barbie with cardboard boxes and construction paper. 30 years later and she runs an architectural firm. I used to play with G.I. Joes and am now a pastry chef. Toys inspire creativity. Teach your kids critical thinking and self respect and the ideology charged written nto the toys will not make that much of a difference.

dudes and dudettes, barbie is a doll. kids don't fashion their world around the barbie ideal. they may be a bit jealous of babie's clothes and accessories, but i doubt kids think about shapes and womanly values at those ages. it's a doll. they sorta know the difference between life and the life in their playful doll fantasies. now, let's cut this nonsense. it's a stupid doll, let it be, and get a life!

Oh it is just a doll for Heavans sake, some of you people are probably the same ones wanting to do away with the Pledge of Allegiance in the schools too. Give Me A Break!

I hate Barbie I always have and always will... I think she gives girls and boys false images of what women are supose to be. I think it's funny that people are worring if this doll gives pagans a bad or good name and not what the Barbie doll it's self is doing to there children. I know Barbie has made my self image less then what it should be. I think they should all be burnt an throwen into the pits of heck where they belong. But I don't see whats wrong with having some thing wiccan or pagan... She looks kinda like one of the Charmed ones from Charmed. Personaly if they made a Satanist Barbie I'd buy it, it would be the only Barbie I'd ever buy though... But people don't get Barbie for your kids anyways get them a book or something instead!

This is sad. Very pathetic. Of course, I detest Barbie to begin with and all that she stands for -- the betrayal of true womanhood in all her strengths for a plastic ideal which little girls will grow up idlolizing but never being able to imitate. It's all commercialism. It's all for the money. The best thing about the concept has been being able to read some of these great comments, though! People are a riot.

Personally, this Barbie saddens me because of my own personal beliefs, and yet, I do believe in religious tolerance so where is the Christian Barbie or the Jewish Barbie? If they're going to make one kind of Barbie they should be prepared to make Barbies with other religious affiliations. Each and every religion deserves equal representation.

Children are not stupid! Wow everyone.. wow, if you really are that influenced by barbie.. if she really caused you to think you had to be blonde haired and blue eyed and thin, if you really think this doll will teach children witchcraft... or conversly, down plays the seriousness of the Wiccan religion, you really need to get over it. I mean come one, childhood is a big fantasy and thats how it should be. Lets be realistic for just a second. With in a week after this is given to a child, she will be in a totally different outfit than this if she is clothed at all, the dragonfly will be mixed in with the legos and the spiin and stirrer will be broken. She will be driving around the living room in her barbie beatle car, on her way to see Ken, who works over on the bookshelf. Its a BARBIE. Its for LITTLE GIRLS! breath people... breath

I am amused at this product. I find it silly for pagans to be offended by something as simple as a toy, too. Just as I find it disturbing that the Christians will complain about it. If there was an evangelist Barbie, would it be any different? As a pagan, I wouldn't complain... It goes along with that freedom of religion thing. If anything, I think it's cute that they're marketing knowledge. Granted, it's a bit of a farce and maybe a little disillusioned... but it still brings awareness to the kids. I am all for supporting this product. Matter of fact, my 24 year old roomie would probably love this to add to her strange collection of pagan paraphranalia... does anyone know where I can find it to purchase? And how much it is? I'm SO posting a link to this in my Witchcraft messageboard. Makes a great Christmas gift... celebrate Christ's birth by giving a gift that supports religious diversity. LOL!

"Evil sinners hath created this product." ...Well thank the gods YOU were here to play the role of judge. If I'm correct (as one who grew up Catholic and has now grown out of it), Christianity teaches that it's God's rols to judge...Do you think you can do that better than God?

How sad indeed. Barbies were originally created to promote Aerians, and Nazism. But somewhere along the line, Barbie lost her way. For shame. An evil witch Barbie is most disgraceful.
