Anakin to Darth Vader Figure (A2177)
A black helmet, layered armor and a changing lightsaber give one figure two dramatic roles. Make a two-scene theater with a costume change between acts.
The play at a glance
One figure, a costume change, two scenes
A black helmet frames the familiar mask, broad shoulder armor sits above a small chest panel, and a long cape completes Darth Vader’s silhouette. The clear blade in the original photograph hints at the figure’s light effect. Under those removable costume pieces is the other role: Anakin Skywalker, ready for a different scene.
Notice how the silhouette changes
The helmet and cape do much of the visual storytelling. With them in place, the figure has Vader’s broad, dark outline. Removing the costume reveals the Anakin role and changes what a storyteller expects the character to say.
Hasbro’s guide fits the chest plate first, followed by the cape and shoulder piece, face mask and helmet. Attaching the helmet triggers breathing sounds. The right-arm button controls the red blade effect and Vader phrases; removing the costume restores the blue-blade Anakin presentation described in the guide.
Follow the illustrated instructions for the change, keeping the removed pieces together beside the scene. Battery installation is an adult job. A pause between acts gives players time to change the costume and decide how the next character will respond.
Stage a hangar and a starship bridge
Draw a hangar doorway on one large card and a bridge window on another. Put a small detail in each picture: a missing-tool notice in the hangar, perhaps, and a distant moon beyond the bridge. These details give the actors something to talk about.
Begin with a helpful pilot in the hangar. Another player voices a mechanic who needs to find a misplaced tool before the next departure. Let the pilot ask a useful question, offer help and learn one new thing about the mechanic’s day.
Pause for the costume change, then place the bridge card behind the figure. Tell this scene from a cautious crew member’s viewpoint. The crew member has spotted an unfamiliar light outside the window and must decide how to report it. Give the scene a beginning, a question and a clear final reply.
Give the supporting character the last line
Retell either scene from the person who was listening. What did the mechanic notice? What was the bridge crew member hoping to hear? A different narrator can turn the same pose into a new moment.
Keep the scenes short enough to replay with another storyteller. A paper figure with two drawn costume versions works too: exchange the pictures between acts and use your own voice for both roles. The backdrop and supporting character provide as much of the adventure as the central figure.

The transformation of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker into the Sith Lord Darth Vader is a complex interplay of personal vulnerabilities, external manipulations, and the overarching socio-political landscape of the galaxy. At the heart of Anakin's descent is his fear of loss. This fear is rooted in his early life as a slave and the loss of his mother, Shmi Skywalker. As he grows, this fear intensifies, especially with his premonitions of his wife, Padmé Amidala, dying in childbirth.
Chancellor Palpatine, secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, expertly exploits Anakin's fears and insecurities. Palpatine positions himself as a mentor and confidant, offering Anakin the allure of the Dark Side as a means to gain power, ostensibly to save his loved ones. The promise of mastering the Dark Side to prevent death becomes irresistible to Anakin, especially when juxtaposed against what he perceives as the Jedi Order's rigid and unsympathetic stance.
Furthermore, Anakin's sense of betrayal by the Jedi Council, particularly when they deny him the rank of Master, fuels his disillusionment. His contentious relationship with the Council, combined with Palpatine's manipulations, creates a rift that pushes him further from the Jedi's teachings.
The final catalyst is his confrontation with his mentor and close friend, Obi-Wan Kenobi, on Mustafar. Feeling betrayed by both Padmé and Obi-Wan, Anakin's anger and hatred consume him, leading to a duel that results in grievous injuries. It's these injuries, both physical and emotional, that solidify his transformation. Rescued by Palpatine and encased in the iconic black armor, Anakin Skywalker is lost, and Darth Vader rises in his place, serving the dark ambitions of the Sith and the newly formed Galactic Empire.

Both pages of Hasbro’s A2177 instructions were reviewed, including transformation diagrams and battery warnings. The guide supports removable armor, helmet-triggered breathing and arm-button light and speech effects. Conflicting 12-inch and 13-inch descriptions elsewhere are unresolved; no exact height is asserted. The earlier August 19, 2023 update, promotional account and full character analysis are retained. The costume change is a toy mechanism, not literal character recognition. The companion activity is an original Toysit suggestion. No physical toy testing was performed.
