The play at a glance

An unusual club behind every door

Purple walls, pointed windows and teal double doors make this Monster High school look ready for an extraordinary afternoon. Open it out and the scene spreads into rooms, a hallway and an upstairs gathering place. Imagine the last lesson ending, the notices going up and a newcomer wondering which club to visit first.

A school that opens into a stage

The front doors form a strong arrival point. Inside, lockers and classroom details give the students everyday places to meet, while the pointed windows and cobweb shapes keep the scenery unmistakably Monster High. A table can host a tiny discussion; the upper hallway can frame a character making an announcement.

Mattel describes six play areas, including the entrance, Locker Hallway, Mad Science classroom, Casketball Court, Creepateria and upstairs hallway. That variety makes room for several stories at once. One character might be designing a club notice while another rehearses a poem, and a third could be trying to find the room where everyone is meeting.

Try it: After-school oddities club

Choose three unusual interests and build an afternoon around them. Dolls, drawn characters or spoken voices can take the parts. A paper school map is enough for the complete activity.

  1. Invent the clubs. Try Cloud Sketchers, Lost-Button Historians and Moonlit Poets. Give each one a project: drawing a cloud that resembles a staircase, imagining the coat a button came from or writing two lines about a streetlamp.
  2. Make the notices. Draw a small poster for each club with its name, meeting place and one thing a visitor can try. Keep the notices on paper beside the school rather than sticking them to its surfaces.
  3. Welcome a newcomer. Let a character tour all three rooms. At each stop, a club member asks what the visitor enjoys and offers a tiny part in the project.
  4. Offer another way to join. A visitor might prefer to describe a cloud instead of drawing it, listen to a poem instead of reading aloud, or invent a button’s story without writing it down. Put that choice on the invitation.
  5. Share the afternoon. End with a small exhibition of the three projects. Give the newcomer a chance to introduce a favorite detail or simply choose where it should be displayed.

Next time, combine two clubs. The Cloud Sketchers might illustrate the Moonlit Poets’ words, while the button historians invent a coat for the person in the poem. Keep one notice as a souvenir of each meeting.

Close the school after the meeting

Use the matching X3711 sheet for unfolding, assembly and storage; it shows the order for returning the rooms to their folded form. Follow its small-parts and small-ball warning. Gather the paper club projects separately so they are ready when the next afternoon’s story begins.

Create a monster, customize

The most iconic spots in Monster High are finally getting some freaky fabulous time in the spotlight. In response to fan demand, girls can now showcase their favorite student bodies in the very first Monster High playset. This two-story school features some of the most recognizable rooms from the webisodes including the iconic school entrance through the gargoyle statues, the mad science classroom, creepateria, casketball court and, of course, the ghouls' creepy cool coffin-shaped lockers. Using the included stickers and decorations, girls can transform the creepateria into the perfect spot for the big school dance. When class is dismissed, the set folds up neatly for easy storage.

Monster High is a fashion doll franchise created by Mattel in 2010, presenting a unique twist on the traditional doll by featuring characters inspired by horror movies, sci-fi horror, thriller fiction, and various monsters. These characters are depicted as the offspring or relatives of famous monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, and the Werewolf. Set in the fictional Monster High school, the characters navigate the challenges of high school life, but with a monstrous twist, dealing with typical teenage issues while also embracing their unique and freaky flaws. The franchise has expanded beyond dolls to include web series, movies, video games, and merchandise, emphasizing themes of friendship, acceptance, and celebrating individuality. The edgy, gothic design of the dolls, combined with their relatable stories, has made Monster High a popular choice among kids and collectors alike.

Sources and editorial notes

The photographed folding school matches Mattel X3711. Mattel’s record lists release in 2012, discontinuation in 2013 and ages 6+. Its complete instruction sheet was reviewed. The contents diagram lists the school and accessories, not the dolls posed in the original image. The preserved “Create a monster, customize” headline belongs to the old page; this profile concerns the school. Club stories are original editorial suggestions, with no physical testing or promised developmental results.
