This older Imaginarium set brings wooden track, trains and scenery onto one play surface. The photograph is busy with buildings and raised routes, but a satisfying first journey can be much simpler: pick a starting place, a destination and something to deliver.
Build a route that fits the table and leaves room to reach the train. Add the rest of the scene after that journey works.
Choose two places before filling the table
Set aside a few compatible track pieces and one train from the set. Choose two existing buildings or open spaces to be the starting point and destination. They might be a station and a works yard, or a village and a shop.
Give the journey one purpose: deliver a wagon, collect a passenger in the story or bring supplies to a building. Leave enough space around the route for a hand to reach the train without knocking over the scenery.
Make a low route that closes
Begin at table level using the track already known to fit together. Connect the two destinations, then see whether the available straights and curves can make a loop within the play surface. If they cannot, a short out-and-back journey is still useful.
Roll the train slowly along the joins before adding buildings. A gap or tight bend is easier to find when the route is clear. Change one piece at a time rather than pushing misaligned connections together. Introduce a raised section only with its matching supports and instructions.
Make the delivery, then change the destination
Move the train from the first stop to the second and narrate what happens there. One player can run the train while another explains what the destination needs. Switch roles for the return journey.
For another round, move one destination or add a reason to stop along the way. Ask whether the route still makes sense. A working small layout gives these changes a clear effect; a crowded table can make the next step harder to see.
Separate the railway from the furniture
Table assembly, loose hardware and storage fittings need the instructions for the actual table. The photograph is not a furniture plan. Have an adult check the table before play, and keep the play surface for toys rather than sitting or climbing on it.
When finished, gather track, trains and scenery into groups. Use the table’s storage only as intended for that model. The original page names Thomas and BRIO compatibility, but check the particular track ends, wheels and couplings before mixing sets; similar-looking pieces do not establish a fit.
