The play at a glance

A small herd with colors and markings of its own

Three painted horse forms stand before a green Paint the Wild box in the original photograph. Dark and light patches, contrasting manes and markings on the legs give the figures different appearances. The body shapes provide the starting point; the maker chooses the coats.

A surviving package photograph identifies the project as three wooden pieces for magnets or hanging display. An open-box photograph shows pale horse forms with painting supplies, making the transformation easy to picture: a plain shape becomes a small animal with its own colors and details.

Choose the coat before the little details

Begin a drawing with one main coat color. Add a larger patch if you want a two-color horse, then consider the mane and tail. A dark mane can stand out against a pale body; a light tail can make a brown silhouette more distinctive.

A small mark on the face or a pale area above a hoof can help one horse stand apart from the others. Try these details on a sketch first. Looking at all three sketches together makes it easier to choose a group with varied markings.

Imagine the horses in a shared setting

Draw a meadow with a winding path, a tree and a patch of taller grass. A player might imagine one horse near the tree, another beside the path and a third looking toward its companions. The setting and the story belong to the player.

Give each drawn horse a name inspired by its colors or markings. A pale face might suggest “Star,” while a dark patch might inspire “Shadow.” Add a small label beside each figure so someone else can follow the scene you have planned.

Make a three-horse display map

  1. Draw three simple horse outlines.
  2. Choose a different coat arrangement for each, then add mane and tail colors.
  3. Give every horse one recognizable marking and a name.
  4. Sketch a meadow with three places where the horses could stand.
  5. Draw the horses into the scene and write one imagined event that brings them together.

This original Toysit activity uses paper and pencils. Physical figures should follow their actual paint and display-attachment directions, with adult help for small parts.
