The play at a glance

A little scooter with a town to visit

A green helmet tops Shannen’s long blonde hair, and bright magenta trousers echo the scooter’s pink wheels. Her hands reach toward the handlebars while a pink transmitter waits beside the vehicle. Super Scooter Shannen gives a player forward travel, steering and a turning flourish. Around that small rider, a story can grow into a whole town of friendly messages and imagined destinations.

Two controls give the rider a direction

In the 50440 guide, the left joystick controls forward movement and rotation, while the right steers during travel. The doll must be attached for the steering to work. The controls give this scooter a different movement pattern from the one-button Mini Skateboard model.

The guide recommends adult supervision and a suitable dry, smooth play surface away from streets, with fingers, hair and loose clothing kept clear of moving wheels. For the story below, a drawing supplies the town and players supply its errands.

Plan a town messenger itinerary

Draw a library, a flower stall and a puppet theater on one sheet of paper. Connect them with a broad drawn street, and give each building a symbol: a book, a blossom and a curtain.

Invent one friendly message for each destination. The library might receive an invitation to a story festival. The flower seller could learn that the theater needs a drawing of a garden for its backdrop. The puppets may be waiting for the name of a story to perform.

Choose the order of the visits and narrate the journey. A player can point to each stop, move a paper messenger across the map or use Shannen as the character beside the drawing. The messages travel in the story; the toy needs no added cargo.

Let the replies change the route

At each stop, invent a reply. The librarian recommends a tale about a sunflower. The flower seller sketches its leaves. The puppets ask for an audience invitation, creating a reason to return to the library.

Add the new message to the itinerary and draw a sign showing where it should go next. Another player can become the messenger while the first supplies the voices of the townspeople.

Finish with a picture of the event everyone helped arrange. A small town square, a paper stage and three smiling characters can show how the separate errands joined into one shared story.

Wonderful remote control toy for girls.

Shannen comes with a radio controller that lets girls actually steer her scooter. With the radio controller, girls can make Shannen: Push forward with one foot on the ground. Pop wheelies. Turn in circles. Shannen's scooter looks real and has cool colored wheels, just like the scooters girls ride. Comes with a helmet and remote control. Sporting flashy colors and super-cool styling, this Super Scooter Shannon is the best-dressed scooter rider on the block. Permanently attached to her beloved scooter, Shannen stands nearly a foot tall and operates at a remote control frequency of 27 MHz. Along with a comb she always carries to keep her long blonde hair looking its best, Shannen comes with an easy-to-use radio transmitter that allows you to move her through a variety of maneuvers and stunts on her scooter. Popping wheelies and turning 360s at the push of a button, Shannen puts her leg down and kicks whenever she moves--giving her a realistic look as she moves through her favorite stunts. Shannen comes with a detachable helmet.

A doll with a scooter adds an extra dimension of excitement to playtime. Children can imagine exciting adventures as they take their doll for a spin around the neighborhood or create fun scenarios with friends. This interactive play encourages creativity and role-playing, allowing kids to mimic real-life activities while caring for their doll. Riding the scooter also promotes fine motor skills and coordination as children maneuver their doll through various obstacles. It's a fantastic way for young ones to bond with their favorite dolls and enjoy the outdoors, fostering both imaginative play and physical activity.

Sources and editorial notes

All four pages of Mattel/Tyco’s 50440 guide were visually reviewed; its scooter, rider and two-control transmitter match the pictured arrangement. It documents forward motion, steering and rotation, and shows how to reattach the doll. The original permanent-attachment, kicking and wheelie claims remain historical assertions; the latter two are not established by this guide. Historical developmental claims are retained without presenting measured benefits. The companion activity is original to Toysit; no physical toy or recorded sound was tested.
