Hoot Owl Hoot!: Keep an Owl Flight Log
Explore Hoot Owl Hoot!, a cooperative color-matching game, then remember one shared move with an original after-game flight log.

The play at a glance
A shared journey, then a remembered move
An owl waits behind a companion on the path home. The group spots a color that could help it along, and the active player makes a choice. After the game, that moment can become the first entry in a little flight log.

Look for the next open color
On a turn, a player who has a sun card must play one and advance the sun. Otherwise, a color card can move any owl to the next unoccupied space of that color. An occupied matching space is passed over. When no open matching space remains before the nest, that color brings the owl home.
For example, imagine one owl waiting behind a matching-color space occupied by a companion. A player might notice that passing that occupied space will carry the trailing owl farther along. Invite suggestions, then let the active player make the choice. Use the complete official rules for setup, drawing cards and the end of the game.
After the game, keep an owl flight log
This original Toysit activity begins when the game is over. Set the game pieces aside and choose one moment worth remembering. A little drawing can give the group something concrete to talk about before deciding whether to play again.
- Pick a moment. Someone might remember an owl jumping past a companion, a color that brought an owl home, or a turn when the group had to wait for another chance.
- Draw a short route. On ordinary paper, sketch an owl at the start and end of the remembered move. Add an arrow between them. A few marks are enough.
- Tell the choice. Complete the sentence, “We chose this owl because…” Another player can add what they noticed.
- Name what happened. Perhaps a trailing owl caught up, or a waiting owl still needed a helpful color. Describe that particular moment.
- Choose a next-time question. Try “Which owl is farthest from home?” or “Is a companion sitting on a useful color?” Keep one question beside the closed game box.
The log is a conversation after play; the printed game continues to use its official rules. A player can dictate to an adult, point to the drawing or simply tell the moment aloud. One memorable move is a complete entry.
