Crayola Trace and Draw Projector
Trace a supplied outline, put the projected guide aside and invent the rest of the scene with this historical tabletop drawing projector.

The play at a glance
Let the outline begin a new scene
A projected outline gives a drawing a starting shape. The interesting next step is deciding what happens around it: where the character lives, what it is doing and what belongs in the background.
Trace only what you need, then continue on paper without the projected guide. The finished picture can belong to the maker even when its first outline came from a supplied disc.
Trace, remove and invent
Once a matching projector has been set up with its own instructions, choose a supplied image with a clear outline. Use paper on the intended drawing surface and trace a few recognizable lines. Leave small details for later instead of trying to capture every mark.
Put the projected guide aside and continue the picture on paper. Ask one concrete question: “Where is this happening?” Add ground, water, a room or a place in the sky, then decide what else belongs there.
For a dolphin like the one in the original photograph, the next marks might become waves, a fish or an imaginary underwater house. These are drawing prompts, not claims about the contents of every included disc.
Give the same outline different jobs
- Change the setting
- Use a familiar outline in an unexpected place, then add details that explain the scene.
- Add a companion
- Draw another character freehand. Let the two figures do something together.
- Make a before and after
- Use separate sheets to show what happened before and after one moment.
- Tell a partner
- Describe the invented part of the drawing and invite the partner to add one detail.
A wobbly trace can become part of the picture. It is unnecessary to keep correcting the outline until it exactly matches the source. The aim can be a readable story rather than a perfect copy.
What the historical description establishes
The 2003 Customs record describes desktop item 543.959 with an adjustable projector head, focusing lens and detachable drawing board. It lists ten discs with seven images each, swing-out disc storage and four C batteries.
That description fits the original Toysit specification and distinctive tabletop form. It supports a supplied-disc drawing activity; it does not establish a way to import photographs, connect a phone or project any personal image. An adjustable head also does not establish an unlimited range of image sizes.
The same document describes Travel Trace & Draw item 841.485 separately, with three discs and four AA batteries. Those details must not be substituted for the desktop model.
Keep setup separate from the drawing idea
Identify the model on the actual toy before choosing batteries or attempting to adjust its parts. Keep its discs together and check the head, arm and board for damage. Use the matching manual for disc loading, focus and permitted adjustment; the Customs description does not supply those procedures.
If the original instructions are missing, the creative prompt still works on paper: draw a simple outline yourself, then invent its setting. There is no need to improvise a projection setup to explore the trace-and-continue idea.
