Wilson AVP Official Beach Volleyball
Picture Wilson’s white AVP beach volleyball, then turn a friendly exchange into a rally postcard. Original image and historical coverage retained.

The play at a glance
A white ball and a beach full of stories
Curving seams divide the white surface of this Wilson AVP volleyball, with dark lettering sitting across the panels. The original picture has the uncluttered look of a ball waiting for its next game. Imagine two partners making a short exchange beside a beach whose landmarks they invent together: a lighthouse, a striped hut and a very busy ice-cream stand.
Let a pass carry a picture
The ball’s broad white panels make the printed Wilson and AVP marks easy to pick out in the photograph. Those familiar sporting marks suggest a beach match, but an informal exchange can have a quieter purpose: sending a little story back and forth.
Choose an intact ball appropriate to the players and follow its own readable inflation and care instructions. Find a clear, level space and agree on short, gentle exchanges. The postcard activity can use a comfortable pass or a gentle toss and catch; catching is an informal variation, not regulation volleyball.
Try a rally postcard
This original Toysit activity alternates a brief ball exchange with a drawing break.
- Choose the first landmark for your imaginary beach. One partner might announce, “Here comes the lighthouse!” before sending the ball toward the other.
- The receiver answers with one detail: “Its door is painted blue.” Send the ball back with another detail about the same place.
- After a few comfortable exchanges, set the ball down. Draw the landmark on a postcard-sized piece of paper and give it a caption.
- Choose a new stop for the next exchange. Perhaps the striped hut sells maps, or the ice-cream stand has a flavor named after a cloud.
- Arrange the postcards in a row and tell a visitor how to walk from one landmark to the next.
Keep the drawing supplies outside the play space. For a seated version, take turns pointing to the pictured ball and speaking the next detail, then draw the same postcards together.
A place worth returning to
Save one small feature for the next visit. The lighthouse keeper might have misplaced a hat; the map seller might be waiting for a new sign. A returning detail gives the next exchange something to begin with, and turns separate drawings into a beach that belongs to the players.

Aspects of Beach Volleyball and the Importance of an Official Ball
- Two Teams: Beach volleyball is played with two teams, usually consisting of two players each.
- Sand Court: The game is played on a sand court, which adds an extra challenge to movement and ball control.
- Net: A net divides the court, and players must send the ball over the net during play.
- Scoring: Points are scored by landing the ball in the opponent's court, and games are typically played to 21 points.
- Serving: Players serve the ball from behind the backcourt line, and serving can be done underhand or overhand.
- Ball Handling: Players must use controlled touches, and double hits or carries are usually considered faults.
- Rally Play: Teams rally the ball back and forth until a point is scored.
- Official Ball: Using a ball that is built to official standards ensures consistency in size, weight, and material. This helps in maintaining fairness and uniformity in the game, allowing players to focus on skill and strategy rather than adjusting to variations in the ball's behavior.
Utilizing a ball built to official standards in beach volleyball is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the game. It ensures that all players are competing with the same equipment, adhering to the same rules, and that the outcome of the game is determined by skill, teamwork, and strategy rather than inconsistencies in the ball's construction. It also helps in training and professional development, as players can practice with the same type of ball that will be used in official competitions.
Sources and editorial notes
The exact older white ball catalogue and inflation label were not recovered. Wilson’s current yellow-and-black OPTX WV30002 is a comparison, not an identification of this ball. Cordley, bladder, lining and construction details remain attributed historical specifications. The preserved rules summary is not a current competition guide: FIVB 2025–2028 rules use 21-point sets and a 15-point deciding third set, each requiring a two-point lead. Consult applicable competition rules for ball handling. No physical testing or recall clearance is claimed.
