The play at a glance

A yellow road joins a whole miniature adventure

Tall green towers rise behind a winding yellow path. Pastel buildings sit to one side, while a purple castle anchors the other. A row of tiny characters in Toysit’s original photograph shows the scale of this small story world.

The Wizard of Oz Playset gathers several destinations into one setting. The player can move a traveler along the road, pause for a meeting and continue toward the city, turning the landscape into a sequence of scenes.

Let each place change the scene

The colors help give the locations separate identities. The pastel village suggests an opening meeting place; the green city towers draw attention toward the center; the darker castle provides another destination. The yellow road visually connects them, so a player can trace a journey with a finger before moving a figure.

Imagine a traveler meeting one friend in the village and another on the way to the city. Give each meeting a small purpose: asking for directions, sharing news or deciding to travel together. Moving between places then gives the story its rhythm.

Little interiors make room for discoveries

The original package overview shows the city and castle opened to reveal smaller scenes. Toysit’s earlier account describes a curtain at the Wizard’s palace, a removable balloon and hidden witch features. Those details give the older description a sense of discovery as the journey reaches each destination.

For a paper version, a folded flap can reveal a drawing or message. A city gate might open onto a welcome sign, or a little room might contain something the traveler has been looking for. Choose the surprise first, then decide which stop on the route should hold it.

Draw a four-stop story map

  1. Draw a winding road across a sheet of paper.
  2. Add four places, such as a village, bridge, city and hilltop house.
  3. Choose a traveler and give them a reason to begin the journey.
  4. At each stop, add a meeting, a discovery or a choice that leads onward.
  5. Tell the story by moving a paper character along the route, then draw the journey home.

This original Toysit activity works with the miniature playset, paper figures or drawings alone. The maker supplies the route, new characters and events.
