The play at a glance

A purple-maned unicorn with a small fairy friend

Starlight is a white unicorn with a long shimmering purple mane and tail, a pink saddle and a tiny fairy companion named Serafina. The original picture places the unicorn beside a princess in a pink woodland. Lights in the horn and hooves add little moments of sparkle as a player carries this pair through a nighttime adventure.

Give Serafina a seat above the horn

A small crown slips over the unicorn’s horn, and Serafina’s legs fit into it. Pressing the fairy down activates horn light and sound; the button can also be pressed directly. This makes her perch part of the toy’s action as well as its appearance.

Imagine Serafina announcing each new place on the route. At a flower gate she might greet a gardener; beside a pond she could ask which way the moon’s reflection points. The player supplies the conversation and decides how those encounters guide the journey.

Twinkling steps and a dressed mane

Moving Starlight produces hoof lights and sounds. The guide also shows the saddle pad, fastening saddle and star-shaped picks that decorate the mane. Three AA alkaline batteries power the effects, with installation illustrated for an adult in the linked guide.

Preparing the unicorn can be the first scene: arrange the saddle, choose a star decoration and introduce the traveling companions. Then move slowly between drawn landmarks, pausing to describe what each character notices. A bright paper moon can make the setting feel like evening while keeping the play area comfortably lit.

Make a moonlit journey card

  1. Draw a winding path connecting a gate, a pond and a clearing.
  2. Give each place a name and a welcoming character.
  3. Write or invent one greeting for each meeting.
  4. Move a toy or paper unicorn along the path, pausing for the greetings.
  5. At the clearing, tell what the travelers have brought back from their visits.

This original Toysit activity works with a drawn fairy and horse as well as the toy set. Add a new visitor to change the next journey.

Children are enchanted by unicorns for a variety of compelling reasons. Firstly, unicorns embody a magical and fantastical element that captivates young imaginations. With their graceful appearance, shimmering horns, and often vibrant colors, unicorns spark a sense of wonder and excitement, inviting children into a world of limitless possibilities and imaginative play.

The rarity of unicorns, often portrayed as mythical and elusive creatures, adds to their allure. Children are drawn to the idea of something extraordinary existing just beyond the realm of reality, feeding their curiosity and encouraging them to explore their own creativity.

Unicorns also symbolize positive qualities such as purity, innocence, and magic. These attributes resonate with children's innate sense of goodness and fascination with the unknown. Unicorns' association with positivity makes them comforting and appealing companions in a child's world.

Additionally, the visual appeal of unicorns, with their elegant forms and whimsical designs, aligns well with the aesthetics that often resonate with children. The opportunity to interact with unicorn-themed toys, books, clothing, and accessories allows them to express their interests and preferences.

Furthermore, the notion of having a loyal and mythical friend like a unicorn can be empowering and comforting for children. The idea that unicorns can be protectors, guides, or simply companions taps into children's desires for companionship and adventure.

Overall, children love unicorns because these magical creatures ignite their imagination, resonate with their sense of wonder, and provide a source of joy, comfort, and inspiration in their world of play and exploration.
