The play at a glance

A little press, a cast of characters

A bright red press stands ready beside three small cans of modeling compound. A clear character mold fits above the base, and the long handle gives the machine its unmistakable silhouette. The appeal is the reveal: opening a mold to meet a tiny Pokémon, then deciding what that character will do next.

From a shape to a small scene

Toysit’s earlier description names Pikachu, Clefairy, Squirtle, Psyduck and Jigglypuff as the five mold subjects. It describes filling the press with Play-Doh, fitting a mold and pressing the handle. Those recognizable outlines give a player a ready-made cast: a visitor arriving at a pond, a friend waiting beside a tree, or a cheerful host welcoming everyone to a clearing.

The pictured figures are small enough for the surrounding scenery to matter. A drawn path can connect two places on a sheet of paper, while a folded paper sign gives the scene a name. Try choosing a different color for a familiar character and inventing a reason for its new appearance: perhaps this is a costume party or a make-believe dream.

Try a five-character picnic

This original Toysit activity begins with a paper picnic map. Draw five places around a blanket: a shady tree, a pond, a flower patch, a lookout and the entrance path. Choose a host and give each visitor one small job, such as finding a shady seat, greeting the next arrival or choosing a song.

  1. Place one molded character or character drawing at each location. Invent a short greeting for each.
  2. Move one visitor toward the blanket. Let the host ask what the visitor noticed along the way.
  3. Add a story surprise: the pretend breeze has carried away the picnic invitation. Decide together which character finds it and how everyone gets the message.

Finish with a group portrait drawn on the map. For another round, swap the jobs and change one location. The same five visitors can tell a quite different story. Drawings alone work for the whole activity, including a paper picture of the press as the picnic’s imaginary ticket booth.

Set up a modeling space

Use a washable work surface and fresh modeling compound suitable for the player, following its current label. Keep the pretend picnic separate from real food. Hasbro identifies wheat among Play-Doh’s ingredients; choose a suitable alternative or the drawing version when wheat is a concern. An adult can check the old press and molds for damage and help with handling before play.

The historical record

Variation on the traditional Play-Doh modeling machine

The Pokemon Character Maker is a neat variation on the traditional Play-Doh modeling machine. Instead of extruding Play-Doh in a continuous shape stream, this machine uses a series of molds, which slide into a slot on top, to create your favorite Pokemon characters. Fill with Play-Doh, press the mold handle, and out come likenesses of Pikachu, Clefairy, Squirtle, Psyduck, and Jigglypuff. The bright red press is 7.5 by 3 by 4.5 inches. Also included are three small pots of Play-Doh in red, green, and yellow; a plastic modeling knife; and five clear plastic character molds. Catching your favorite Pokemon character just got easier with Play-Doh! Using the Play-Doh modeling compound, you can create your own finger puppets, decorate pencils, and lots of other fun projects! Make finger puppets and other Pokemon decorations using the included Play-Doh! Contents include three two-ounce cans of Play-Doh Brand Modeling Compound, extruder, Pikachu mold, Squirtle mold, Psyduck mold, Clefairy mold, Jigglypuff mold and knife.

Each Pokémon possesses its unique traits, abilities, and evolutionary stages, fostering a sense of discovery and collection. The franchise's expansion into animated TV series, movies, trading card games, toys, and merchandise further fueled its popularity. The bond between Pokémon and their trainers, portrayed as a reflection of friendship and teamwork, resonates with audiences of all ages. The iconic characters like Pikachu, Charizard, and Bulbasaur have become cultural symbols recognized around the world.

Sources and editorial notes

The original image and account establish this historical profile. The account names five character molds; a matching manufacturer instruction sheet and legible complete package inventory were not recovered. Dimensions, supplied colors and accessory quantities remain attributed to that account. Hasbro’s compound guidance is general, not a specification for vintage contents. The activity is an original Toysit suggestion; no physical testing was performed.
