Rescue Heroes Cliff Hanger
Meet Rescue Heroes Cliff Hanger and his broad red wings and rescue clamp, then draw an original dispatch map for a cooperative tabletop story.

The play at a glance
Red wings and a call for help
Cliff Hanger’s broad red wings stretch above his helmet, while blue gear curves around his chest and arms. A red clamp sits in front of him, and large black boots give the figure a substantial stance. The equipment suggests an air-rescue adventure: imagine a dispatcher calling out a location, Cliff planning the route and a waiting character welcoming his arrival.
Equipment that suggests a helping story
The wings give Cliff a recognizable outline; the clamp gives him a particular job once he arrives. Toysit’s earlier account describes a button that opens the wings and a removable backpack. Those details belong to the preserved account below, while the original photograph lets readers explore the figure’s colors and equipment.
A rescue story can begin with a small, understandable need. Imagine a character stranded on the wrong side of a drawn river, a visitor unsure which path leads home or a parcel waiting at an isolated outpost. One player can be the dispatcher and another can supply Cliff’s responses. The toy or a paper figure travels across a table or floor while the players narrate the flight.
Try a rescue dispatch map
Create a cooperative route with three stops. This original Toysit activity gives each waiting character a voice.
- Draw three locations. Put a riverside hut, a garden shelter and a hilltop station on one sheet. Leave room for paths and landing spots drawn on the page.
- Assign the calls. Place a toy or drawn character at each location. Give each one a simple request: directions, a delivered message or help reaching the meeting place.
- Dispatch Cliff. Choose a first stop. The dispatcher can describe pretend weather, and Cliff can explain the route. Move the figure along the map, narrating the airborne part.
- Close each call. Have the waiting character say what helped. Add a small check mark beside the location and decide together where to go next.
Finish with everyone at a shared base. Ask each character to contribute one sentence to the dispatch log: what they needed, how they helped or what they would like to do tomorrow. The final scene can be a quiet welcome after a busy imaginary flight.

Rescue Heroes Cliff Hanger
Fisher-Price makes a whole series of cool Rescue Heroes action figures, including Cliff, the Air Rescue Specialist. Push a button on the top of his glider backpack and out pops his toy hang-glider-like red wings (this pack is removable and can be worn by other Rescue Heroes figures). Cliff has big feet for steady landings, a rescue clamp that automatically closes around objects, and movable body parts. He stands about 8 inches high and is made from sturdy stuff so he can withstand crash landings at the hands of exuberant 5 year olds. It's fun and durable. Leap and soar, glide and swoop. Cliff Hanger uses his jet-powered hang glider to catch air currents and to fly to wherever people need help. Then, with is great clamp he lifts and carries them to safety. So if trouble's in the wind, Cliff's just the hero to help.
Rescue Heroes are a line of action figures that were first introduced by Fisher-Price in the late 1990s. These toys stand out for their focus on emergency rescue personnel rather than the traditional superhero or combat-oriented action figures. With characters modeled after firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other rescue professionals, they aim to provide children with role models who perform heroic deeds as part of their everyday jobs. The figures often come with appropriate gear and accessories, like fire hoses, rescue harnesses, and medical kits, to make play more realistic and engaging. Over the years, the brand has also expanded to include animated series, movies, and even video games. The Rescue Heroes line not only offers hours of imaginative play but also inspires a sense of compassion and a desire to help others, teaching kids that real heroes come in many forms.
Sources and editorial notes
Mattel’s 77088 Air Rescue Specialist record supports the hang-glider-and-clamp character concept. Its linked photograph shows a different color version from Toysit’s image, so its 2001 release, 2005 discontinuation and age listing are not assigned to this exact pictured variant. A matching operating sheet was not recovered. The original button, removable-pack, eight-inch and durability claims remain historical, not newly tested findings. Flight and lifting in the story are pretend.
