SimCity 3000 Unlimited — A City of Your Own
Picture a neighborhood growing in SimCity 3000 Unlimited, then make a foldout showing its skyline, street and map.

The play at a glance
A city takes shape one district at a time
The little SimCity 3000 Unlimited box image points toward a much larger canvas: a city whose roads, buildings and landmarks gradually form a recognizable place. A player might imagine a district around a tower, a neighborhood beside the water, or a busy center with quieter streets beyond it. The pleasure lies partly in seeing separate decisions become a whole view.
Roads, districts and a changing view
The manual’s tutorial starts with a small road layout and areas zoned for homes, commerce and industry. Power and other services help the simulated city develop. The player can pause to look around, then let time move forward and watch buildings appear within the zones.
Maps and graphs offer another view of the city. They can reveal patterns that are harder to read from rooftops alone. Changing the view, checking the information and returning to the streets makes the game a sequence of decisions and observations.
Unlimited also includes tools for customizing the city’s appearance. The manual separates building replacement within the city from making structures in Building Architect Plus. A building’s shape can be an expressive part of an invented place: a distinctive roof or tower gives the surrounding blocks a point of reference.
Try a landmark neighborhood foldout
Fold a sheet into three panels and give your neighborhood a name. Choose one landmark to appear in all three views—a clock tower, a broad old tree or a library with a round window.
- Skyline: draw the landmark among roofs and treetops. Give it a silhouette that is easy to recognize.
- Street: move closer. Add a row of homes, a market stall and someone arriving at the landmark. Invent a sign or a short greeting.
- Map: look down from above. Mark the same places and trace a route from a home to the market and on to the landmark.
Ask a partner to add a public square. Decide together what moves to make room, then update all three views. Perhaps a stall changes corners while a tree becomes the square’s center. Give the square a name and tell the story of its first afternoon. Your drawings supply the places and people.
