The play at a glance

Bright letter shapes, from A to Z

Red, yellow, blue and green letters stretch across four rows in the original ABC Learning Puzzle photograph. The uppercase shapes are the main attraction: an A with a pointed top, a round O and a wide W each offer a different outline to follow.

The original Toysit account calls this the See Inside ABC puzzle and describes illustrations beneath its pieces. The visible board also works as a starting place for a picture story. Choose a letter, think of an object beginning with it and draw that object into an imaginary scene.

Look at the shape before finding its place

Some letters are built around long straight strokes, while others have curves or slanting sides. Choose one and trace its outline in the air with a finger. Then look along the rows for its place on the board.

Try a simple description for another player: “Find a letter with a round opening,” or “Find one with a zigzag shape.” More than one answer can make an interesting conversation about what each person notices.

Turn three letters into three pictures

Choose three different letters and think of one familiar object for each. B, K and M could become a boat, a kite and a moon. Draw a small picture of each object, with its letter beside it.

Now join the pictures in a story: imagine a boat carrying a kite toward a moonlit island. Change the order and the story may change too. A grown-up can help name an object or write its word while the player chooses what happens.

Make a three-letter picture trail

  1. Find three different letters on the board or write them on paper.
  2. Draw an object beginning with each letter.
  3. Arrange the pictures in a row.
  4. Tell a short story that visits all three pictures.
  5. Swap two pictures and invent a different ending.

This original Toysit activity works with a puzzle, handwritten letters or ordinary picture cards. Players can choose familiar words and ask for help whenever they want.

ABC puzzle that makes learning easy.

The See Inside ABC learning puzzle goes from letter A-Z with beautiful full-color illustrations under each piece. This puzzle makes learning easy and fun!

Puzzles designed with letters of the alphabet are an effective and engaging way to introduce children to the ABCs. By interacting with letter-shaped pieces, children gain tactile and visual exposure to the shapes and forms of each letter. Alphabet puzzles often include pictures corresponding to the letters, such as A for Apple, helping children associate letters with sounds and words. The hands-on nature of puzzles encourages children to recognize and differentiate between letters, enhancing their understanding of the alphabet sequence. As children work to fit the pieces into their corresponding slots, they are also developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness. The process of solving the puzzle provides opportunities for repetition and reinforcement, making alphabet puzzles a valuable tool for early literacy development in a fun and interactive way.
